I am thoroughly fascinated by paper art. One day, I'd love to try my hand at this. The basic simplicity of the art is obscured by layer upon layer of curls, cuts and folds, each using such a basic medium.

It can range from elegant simplicity, like Jo Lynn Alcorn's paper blossoms

to stunning complexity, such as Wataru Itou's "Umi no Ue no Oshiro" (A Castle on the Ocean).

It can be organic and amazingly lifelike, such as Allen and Patty Eckman's native series

or can spring directly from a book, such as Su Blackwell's "The Girl in the Wood".

They all fill me with wonder and amazement. And if our professor had taught us to quill like Yulia Brodskaya, maybe I might have taken up quilling as a hobby:

My friend Peter does cut paper art! He's not as elaborate as these works, though.

I'm amazed by paper art - so detailed and intricate! It's the kind of thing I could never create myself, but I certainly admire it from afar. On the other hand, I have a love/hate relationship with booksculptures. They are usually incredibly beautiful visual pieces, but my gut reaction on seeing them is always 'No, no, no, what did you do? Don't hurt the book!'
