Anne's House of Dreams by L.M. Montgomery - and I think I'll stop there. There's still something simple and enchanting about the books but not much happens, plot-wise, at this point.
Louis Riel: A Comic-Book Biography by Chester Brown - I was thoroughly bored. Some of the drawings were very good, particularly of the First Nations people and lifestyles, but the politics put me to sleep.
The Poisoner's Handbook: Murder and the Birth of Forensic Medicine in Jazz Age New York by Deborah Blum - this book started off strong: the establishment of what was killing people in New York and why no one was creating any kind of safeguards against it. It also delved into murder and mayhem caused by poison, which was interesting. However, by half-way through, the novelty had worn off and it became repetitive and a little redundant. Still an enjoyable read but it could have been edited down significantly.
War for the Oaks by Emma Bull - I've been eyeing this book for years; it's considered one of the pioneers of urban fantasy and surely served as an inspiration for Mercedes Lackey's SERRAted Edge series, which I dearly loved. It builds slowly but I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it.
The Ghost Brigades by John Scalzi - continuing from Old Man's War, it basically serves to set up the rest of the series. It was enjoyable and fun to read, but not nearly as good as the first.
Hunter by Mercedes Lackey - there has definitely been a decline in quality of her books in the past few years; I presume being such a prolific writer for such a very long time, as well as getting older, must take a toll. It took several chapters for this to catch my interest. I nearly put it down several times. However, by half-way through I was hooked and thoroughly enjoyed it. I was disappointed by how closely it echoed the Hunger Games in parts, but I did very much enjoy the character interactions and action sequences, as usual.

Goldfinger (1964) - because who doesn't love classic Bond?
